Fall Picture Madness!!

Even though fall is technically over with the end of Thanksgiving, traces of it are still there especially with the presence of the fall leaves. So to help bring out the last remaining fall spirit, heres a couple of fall-related pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Dont have much in terms of fall pics

If you want to add pictures of your own then post links to them in the comments and Ill add them up. If I get enough pictures by the end of the week then Ill put up all the pictures in a zip file and put it up for download.

WOW! ZOMG those were some nice pictures. Besides, how do you guys hear of these off-US animes? I'm like totally clueless about them, and I need to be educated about this. Oh, and if you get a sudden urge to write a fanfic, this is a great site:

http://www.fanfiction.net/anime/

It has a whole list of anime and manga. You just need to click a link on page to get to the manga.

Theres alot of ways to find them. One way is the youtube video chain by searching through related videos. Another is the Google and the blog chain. AMVs also introduces a couple of new anime out there.

Thanks for the link. Not a good writer of fanfics but I do enjoy reading them every now and then. Starcraft fanfics especially.

Once you get familiarized with anime, you might start searching for new anime through studios and maybe even voice actors.

For example, if you like Haruhi, you might start searching for anime done by KyoAni which would get you Lucky Star and Clannad as results.

If you like Shana's VA (Rie Kugumiya), you would probably end up with Zero no Tsukaima/Hayate no Gotoku/Shana Second.

From those, you could search similar anime and the list would grow bigger and bigger.

So, did you get an account yet? And plus, why can't we get like a V-bulletin system. It would make this a lot easier.

TheGrape said...

forum takes too much work. With the lack of activity the blog is getting. Forum wont be worth it. Only if we get more activity will I start considering it.

Anonymous said...

Except if we do get a forum, it'll be easier since the set-up is easier. If you want a sample, take a look at this:

http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/index.php

Sorry if you don't like the topic, but this is what v-Bulletin is like. Besides, if we announce that we've changed into this format, we'll get better attention since this really isn't the best thing to use.

Dont worry about getting off-topic. As long as it has some relevance then I dont really care whether its on the topic or not.

Ive administrated and moderated VBB and IVP boards so Im familiar with forum setups. Im not trying to sound bad or anything but I really want to know how a forum board would be superior to a blog system.

For one thing, forum boards are meant for large scale activity. My idea was to have an activity going on mostly between club members. That number is probably hovering around 20.

Also, considering we dont even get double digits in terms of blog activity, I dont find it worth my time taking care of a forum when I know that club members wont even go to it.

Ill go with majority vote on this one. If you get 20 people that are willing to be active members of a anime club forum, then Ill seriously start considering it. Heck the number of people posting on the blog/shoutbox is pretty demoralizing already to tell you the truth.

Im already getting pissed at the lack of activity already in the blog but this is one thing Ill stick with to the end. A failed forum system would bring me down even more and thats the last thing Id want.

Right now Im not complaining much since the senior posters have SAT and colleges to deal with. SAT is over now so hopefully we get more posts from them.

Im very open to ideas so feel free to throw them at me. Its just that I might have to go through proper channels to get some ideas going.

That is true. Anyway, since I now touched on the subject of Pokemon a bit (notice the link), what fo you think is making it lose its appeal to the older audience and if you are still, "in," with the anime, what is your favorite ship. And please don't tell me I have to explain what shipping is. I don't really wanna go through that again. And where did you gain that said, "experience"?

well Pokemon used to be awesome. lots of kids liked the dubs and such. however diamond and pearl is pretty bad. they changed all the dub voice actors and such on cartoonnetwork, so the long remembered ash from palet town all the way past orange league and stuff is dead. nwo its like a fat chubby kid in his place -_-. as for anime/manga checks and such, I highly recommend this forum :

http://forums.narutofan.com/

yea btw, I forgot how to hyperlink stuff on blogs so yea... anyway, a forum owned by paulo and or tim or dov or something is a bit difficult. I think it would take a lot of work and Doc would probably need to be invlolved which woudl put some stress on him. stress from managing that would be enormous for both paulo, doc, and other members. more the reason I suggested a ventrilo. cheaper and easier :).

OK, speaking about it, do you remember Kiki's Delivery Service, the VHS anime movie that came out in 1998, and coincided with Phil Hartman's death. Well, even though this may be old news, I heard that they're coming out with a live-action version of the film in 2009. What is your opinion on this? Oh, and if you don't remember, its based of a famous book series in Jpan. Its been there for a while now.

btw John, just letting you know, finding off US anime's is easy when you watch subbed version online like youtube. I started watching subs about not even a year ago for the first time >_<. Naruto got me into it. I was searching for the neji fight ending to watch on youtube and I stumbled upon it in japanese, and found the voices AMAZING. I have grown attached to it and now read manga and watch subbed animes.

actually john and paulo, a classic and amazing anime you might wanna watch ( altho a bit old) would be Cowboy Bebop I believe. Its pretty damm legendary. I still highly recommend Jo Jo's BIzarre adventure, One Piece, Bastard, and Berserk.

Anonymous said...

I do hear that One Piece is good, but I'm too addicted to you-know-what to care. So, how do I get off the addiction?

Shoddragon said...

I would try to just stop watching Pokemon for a bit. I mean do you watch Pokemon absolutely all the time? because during some free time ( maybe after homework/studying or so) you could watch some one piece fights.

I would recommend typing on youtube the following:

luffy vs bellamy
ougen rifle
gomu gomu no jet gatling
luffy vs blueno
gomu gomu no storm
luffy vs Kuro
luffy vs foxy ( the actual fight is hard to find)

very very excellent fights. worth watching if you want to take One Piece for a test drive.

Actually Paulo brings up a nice point about following voice actors. I like the japanese actor for Orochimaru's voice as well as naruto's so I'll actually check that out.

Anyway, I bet that at least one person has heard of Veronica Taylor, who, in my regards, is the best voice actor in anime dubs (yeah, she only does dubs, and most of them are 4Kids dubs :{ brrr...) She is famous for several series including One Piece, and, not surprisingly if you know me well enough, Pokemon. And the thing is that I hate the fact you can't download animes at all on iTunes. When they do that, that's when I'll be impressed, especially if they release Zatch Bell. I really want to know what happens.

The Grape said...

When compared to Entertainment in general, Anime forms a very small part of that. Apple wants to make money so they will cater to the majority first. Only if the popularity of Anime jumps high enough to be recognizable will major entertainment companies start taking interest in it.

I believe Taylor was in Anime Boston at one point. If not then she might pop up this year.

I am so totally hoping for that. She is the best VA ever, plus I hear she's also open to the fandom.

Shoddragon said...

Well the voice actor for sasuke pronounces a lot of the japanese words good in the dub as does the dub Temari. as for Paulo, wtf? why would you BUY episodes? unless its on DVD its not worth it. I recommend trying to find torrent sites and such. I get my newest Naruto episodes from the official site. type dattebyou and the first one should have uptodate episodes. as for pokemon, it also has that too as well as bleach.

TheGrape said...

Unlike you leechers, I actually support the creation of more high quality anime by buying them. How do you think the people making those anime put food on the table? By having thousands of people download their work for free? No. By having people buy their work because they put time, money, and effort into it.

I thought this was basic concept of supporting anime you like but it seems not much people understand it.

Shoddragon said...

explain why anime and manga are available online? it helps promote buying the actual anime. When the manga actually comes out in book form here in the U.S I might buy it for example. anyway, buying it from apple or something would give them MOST of the money. I like watching dattebayou subs on its official website just fine.

Paulo, again, more than 1 way of supporting the creator is downloading the manga and anime for free so you can say : "Hey, this manga was a good read, I should go pick it up when it comes out near me". that way I could read it anytime.

TheGrape said...

Its nice that you understand the whole try it before you buy it scheme but your not being realistic.

First of all, does your action of watching all those 200+ episodes of Naruto and reading all those manga enable the developers to make money from you?

Sure you could say "Hey this series is nice. I would like to have it when it comes out in the states," but how many of those people actually do that? What prevents the people that downloaded anime online from converting it into a format supported by their ipods/psp or burning it into a dvd so as to prevent buying it?

The only way that doesnt work is through manga unless they print out the whole volume, which again some people might actually do. Sans the revenue again.

When you show a teaser trailer of an anime series, your promoting it. When you give out the whole series of an anime online, its called pirating. (Insert fansub argument here)

Screenings are also a way promote buying anime since the people interested in seeing more of the anime screened will have to obtain more episodes of a series to see what happens next.

Also, the only way I see the developers making money from anime being streamed (notice how I say streamed and not download) online is through the ads. Then again, you basically only make 5 cents per episode/per person. Too little to actually make much profit considering the small number of anime fans.

Now on the issue of buying from Apple or US anime companies. When I buy anime from them, I am basically saying that I am interested in the work of the studio that developed said anime. Because I am saying that, the US companies would then be interested in licensing more anime from them.

When licensing, US companies give the Japanese studios money for the right to distribute their anime to the states. With the money from the US companies, the Japanese studios will have more money to develop another series. They also have the backing of the US company since it is almost sure that the company will buy the license for their next series.

Sure the US company might get a good amount of money from people buying the US version, but lets not forget that this is a BUSINESS. Companies are there to make money. In the business world, you dont cater to the people pirating your product and making money out of it. You cater to the people buying your product and prevent the pirates from stealing money away from you.

The only reason anime fans are being spoiled with the fansubs and such is because an anime version of the RIAA does not exist (or if it does, doesnt have much power). If one does rise up, and hopefully it does not, then you could kiss those fansubs goodbye.

This is not going to happen anytime soon unless anime gets more attention and a bigger slice of the entertainment revenue. Only then will big companies take more interest in it and the lawyers/US government/court system will take action.

TheGrape said...

Damn.. I should have made that a post instead. I guess Ill delete that and make a post about this whole issue.

screenings at things like Anime Tokyo and such help believe me. Although I do realize fansubbing is illegal. I am sure if you still watch the Naruto anime paulo and get the english subtitled it is mostly from the dattebayo official fansub site. however they will now stop subbing episodes because too many people are posting their episode on youtube and they don't want some companies to take notice and possibly close them down.

I do agree many people do take things too far as for example mass posting of fansubbed material which could get fansubbers in trouble. However your underestimating the power of anime LOL. Anime and the sex industry are probably the largest industries in Japan right now. I think sex industry wins out by a small margin due to the large amount of candid, naked, and pornographic materials they create. DOn't ask how I know this, and its not via internet sources ^_^.

In the states, its more movie and governmentally focused right now.

Anime is still just seeping in to the U.S. Eventually dubbed AND subs will be legally available to choose from for many anime viewers in the states. Growing crazes including Narutardation ( LOL new wurds) and One Piece phobia are spreading. ONe Piece tardam not so much but still. Things can only get bigger and bigger. and you still have the occasional website that subs animes legally for japanese creators like kishimoto that thrive on donations and such. I know for a fact I would donate some money to Kishimoto ( naruto LOL) and Oda (one piece) if I ever hit it rich and the companies that help produce the manga/anime. however of course I might be one of very few who might do that. Eventually however Anime will start getting larger. However, lawyers and such would be hardpressed to mess with japanese things that they couldn't even understand. Fansubbers as an example. O and merry christmas and a happy new year guys.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! And, they just released the first round of guests for Anime Boston '08. No V.T. yet, but we already got someone from the industy.
