Anime/Sci-Fi/Environmental/Smile Halloween Party

So as you people might have noticed by the name, we expect to have a lot of people come to the party. This is Doc's way of giving all the clubs he runs to have a Halloween party... but anyway I'm posting to tell you people about the details of said party.

Party will take place on the Theater on Halloween Day (Wednesday, Oct. 31)

The party will most likely include things like Videos Game Tournaments, from what i heard so far it will be Halo 3 and SSBM . We would also have Screenings either anime(either Lucky Star or Pani Poni Dash) or AMVs (basically just to have something to see if your waiting for your tournament, you can still watch it thought). Also as a final event (not really an event thought), the the Due Date for all art, from the Art Contest that wa
s posted about a really long while ago. If by some miracle were not lazy then we will try to announce winner by the end of party. Anyway thats about the big things going on in the party.. by the way there will also be food and drinks so we don't die of thirst or hunger.

On another note everyone can contribute to bring controllers (360 and Gamecube) back up cables(same as for controllers).... unfortunately we have experienced times when we forgot cables.. really sad parties.

Now as a final note bring at least $5 (party entrance will cost no more than that) or a bag of candy (to give more variety to the food...)

Recruiting New Posters!!

Well it seems that some people have been complaining about the lack of posts, mainly on the "mainstream" anime section.

"If you think you can do a better job then go ahead and do it."

So Im opening up posting positions to anyone in the school anime club who wants it. Obviously your not getting any admin access anytime soon, but what it does get you is the ability to post about Naruto, Bleach, and all those other good stuff that you've been complaining that you want to see. Personally, I do not have the time to catch up to those series so I wont even bother with them. This gives you an opportunity to be active in the club and to show us how much you love anime.

If you want to be added as a poster, then just email me at saltedbread@gmail.com with:
Full name, ID #, and gmail address (needed for blogger account)

Dont forget to put somewhere in the email that you want to post for the blog. Any email sent with attachments will be deleted immediately.

This helps me make sure that you are part of the school anime club and not just some random person on the net. It also helps me hunt you down in the event you start posting inappropriate stuff in here.

Ugh.. didnt pay attention to comment setting until now. Everyone can comment on posts now which means you dont need to be registered to blogger. Hopefully that should help people who dont have a gmail account. The shoutbox still stays even though one of its purposes have been removed.

Saimoe Elite 8

Saimoe 2007 Elite 8

Louise's unexpected win against Suigintou (1663 / 1638) puts an end to Round 4. Personally, I voted Louise out of pity since I was assuming that Gin would massacre her, but it seems that the anti-doll/Nanoha faction might have helped tip the scales in favor of Louise. BTW my prediction from my last post was completely false. Suiseiseki pulls an 06 by beating Fate with 7 votes (1544 / 1537) in K. Saimoe while Tsukasa wipes the floor with Desu (1741 / 1559) to take a spot in the Elite 8.

Saimoe 2006 Elite 8

When checking this year's Elite 8, most of the characters are new faces. The only ones returning to the Elite 8 spotlight are Nanoha who won the 2005 Saimoe, and Shinku who lost last year to Chikaru. The absence of last year's top 3 (Suiseiseki/Fate/Shana), and dominant forces such as Kagami and Suigintou, really makes this Saimoe very interesting. I believe that Tsukasa is the dominant force in here since the Lucky Star faction's morale just increased after the loss of Desu. With the strong LS vote, it looks like she's the most probable pick for the 07 title.

Then again, with what happened to Gin at Round 4, it could still be anyone's game.

Shinku remains after Desu and Junk got destroyed

10/26 - Rena Ryuuguu vs Nanoha Takamachi
This one is a tough call. Nanoha will get full support of her faction since Gin is gone to carry the will of Fate. On the other hand, Rena looks like she cant be stopped after defeating the big favorite, Kagami, and going on to murder Yuno for Elite 8 status.

What gives Nanoha a chance to win is the amount of anti-Rena votes from Kagami fans.
Then theres also some people's policy of not voting for previous Saimoe winners which would hurt Nanoha votes.

10/27 - Konata Izumi vs Nagi Sanzenin
Ugh.. another tough one. This time its the battle of the otakus. Konata is the weakest of the LS characters in this tournament so some LS fans might vote for Nagi. Kagami's loss on K. Saimoe should fuel up the Hayate faction and that might help out Nagi.

Personally, I find Nagi more moe than Konata, but making a prediction here is tough. Especially due to the fact that LS fans outnumbers Hayate fans. Also the fact that more otakus relate to lazy Konata rather than the ridiculously rich and smart Nagi. I'll give this match to Konata but I'll give Nagi a reasonable doubt.

10/28 - Rika Furude vs Louise Francoise le mishmash of french
Rika support seems lower compared to Rena when looking into votes. However, many people have problems with Louise.. especially the Rozen faction. Louise has already beaten Mai, Eri, and Gin so theres really no one else to beat in order to prove that Louise is of moe material. Although Im interested in the amount of anti-votes Louise will get in this match. The Rozen faction will definitely get involved in this one since Gin's loss has caused many to go emo.

10/29 - Shinku vs Tsukasa Hiiragi
This is the last chance for the Rozens to redeem themselves. Of all the 3 dolls that were in Round 4, Shinku was the least expected one to get into the Elite 8. She is the weakest of the 3 dolls in round 4 and the Rozen faction has to go into serious overtime if they want Shinku to survive. From the looks of it, the divided Rozen fans are uniting for the cause of Shinku. It will be one hell of a match.

Tsukasa wont get much anti-votes and even if she does get alot of anti-votes, it wont be enough to stop her momentum. I say that the outcome of Rika vs Louise will be a huge factor in Tsukasa's future in Saimoe 2007.

Korean Saimoe

The Elite 8 just matched off this week and now its only the Final 4 thats left. Sad to see Fate loose to Suiseiseki again and Im surprised that Hinagiku won against Kagami. I guess this year wasnt good for Kagami even though she was the crowd favorite.

10/26 - Shana vs Suiseiseki
Another repeat of the past and its on the same round as in last year's J. Saimoe. A good number of attention has been switched here from heartbroken J. Saimoe desu voters so Suiseiseki might win. I hope the past doesnt repeat itself... again. Fate's loss to Desu is already enough.

10/27 - Tamaki Kousaka vs Hinagiku Katsura
Hinagiku's support is alot stronger than Tamaki's. Tamaki has also been barely getting by on the previous rounds so I give the win to Hinagiku. Theres a chance for Tamaki to win but I highly doubt it.

Saimoe 2007

What is Saimoe excatly? Its a tournament held every year to figure out which female character is the most moe. There are 3 moe tournaments going on right now: Saimoe(Japan), Korean Saimoe, and Touhou Seimoe. Since I haven't introduced you guys to the Touhou series, I'll only post about Saimoe and K. Saimoe.

Saimoe 2007
Korean Saimoe
Touhou Seimoe

Saimoe is not a simple popularity poll. If it is so, it's easy; they only make a decent CGI site. The essence of Saimoe is to express your moe; voting is only of secondary importance, apart from the present situation of Saimoe. In the Leaf Key Saimoe which was the origin of Anime Saimoe there was an examination of moe comments. If the comment was judged to be inappropriate in the light of moe spirit by Saimoe staff, the vote was eliminated, needless to say the vote without comments. In this year's Saimoe there are quite a few people which bring the votes without moe comment into question. In fact the total votes count become 1/2~1/3 if the votes without comment are eliminated. So let's write your moe comment with your vote and make the atmosphere of Saimoe warm up!

-ando (AnimeSuki forum)

Saimoe brackets list + Part 2

Now if you look at the list, you would notice two things. One would be "WTF I don't know most of these anime!", and the second would be "Where the hell is Sakura, Orihime, *insert Naruto/Bleach female character here*!?"

To answer #1, the characters chosen to be in Saimoe must have their respective series/movie/OVA aired and/or released in Japan between July 1st 2006 and June 30th 2007. That means that most of the series there are pretty new. But wait a second.. Naruto and Bleach are still airing! Ill just go on and say that Naruto and Bleach has lost some popularity in Japan during the last year. To add to that, not many people find female characters from those series to be moe when compared to other characters such as Shana, Nanoha, Suiseiseki, Kagami, and others.

How to vote (Must have Japanese font enabled!!)
Voting on the K. Saimoe and Touhou Seimoe is pretty easy since all it requires at most is to pick a choice from a list and press vote. However, voting on Saimoe is a little bit more complicated.

Saimoe voting instructions - also found here with images (click on show to see picture tutorial)
1. First click on the 1st link you see in the Saimoe page.

2. Clicking you there would put you into a page with 4 links. In order to vote, you need to have a code. To get that code, click on the 3rd link.

3. Here is where it kinda gets confusing but Ill try my best to explain. Once you get to the page where you get your code, you'll see alot of confusing numbers.
The only number you need to pay attention to is the bottom number. This number is the time when your supposed to refresh the page to get your code. To find out what time to refresh, subtract 1 hour from it.

Example: The bottom number says 7:58 so that means you need to refresh the page at 6:58 for the code.

4. Once you get your code. Copy the whole thing including the [[ ]]
Example code: [[AT0721-Lzyg8c6D-Qb]]

5. Now you need to go back to this page and click on the last link. This will lead you to multiple voting threads. Go to the most current thead with less than 1001 votes. While your at it, open the first link on the previous page in a new window/tab. This page contains the current characters available for voting.

6. Your almost done now! Go to the bottom of the voting thread where you would find three input boxes: Two small ones and 1 big box. Ignore the two small boxes and paste your code inside the big box. Now go to the character page which you previously opened up in a new window/tab, copy the character's name you want to vote for (<< >> included) and paste it in the box.

Important: Also post a comment along with your code + character! Your vote wont be counted if it doesnt have comments.

7. Click send, confirm your vote in the next page, and your done!

When looking at the instructions, it seems to be very complicated, but voting is actually easy once you do it. Its basically get code, find voting thread, post code + character in voting thread, click send, and done. The only thing that makes it complicated is the links and the waiting for code. Hopefully this would get you people to vote along.

This year's Saimoe had alot of upsets. The three most important ones I believe are:

Fate's (Nanoha) loss to Suigintou (Rozen Maiden) in Round 3 - If someone was to win this year's Saimoe, it was Fate or Kagami. Fate was on the lead for most of the time until Gin suddenly received a huge amount of votes in the last hour. This is the second time Fate lost to a Rozen after her loss to Suiseiseki in the 2006 Finals.

Kagami's (Lucky Star) loss to Rena (Higurashi) in Round 3 - this one is a very huge upset since many have already predicted that Kagami would win this year's Saimoe. Fake votes were considered the culprit for Kagami's loss since it led many to believe that Kagami was on the lead, although in truth it was Rena who was ahead.

Shana's (Shana) loss to Nagi (Hayate) in Block A Finals - this was interesting since Im a Shana fan myself. I thought that Shana's bento move on ep. 2 would have gotten her the victory over Nagi, but the Hayate faction didn't choke this time. At least Shana lost to Nagi and not to someone else.

Anyways heres today's matchup:
Saimoe Block F Finals: Suiseiseki (Rozen Maiden) vs Tsukasa Hiiragi (Lucky Star)
K. Saimoe Elite 8 Group 2: Suiseiseki (Rozen Maiden) vs Fate T. Harlaown (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha)

Two matches involving "desu". I think that Fate will win on K. Saimoe for revenge on Saimoe 2006. On the other hand, Suiseiseki will advance to the Elite Eight in Saimoe 2007 unless enough Kagami supporters vote for the last Hiiragi sister remaining on Saimoe.

New Shoutbox!

Although it has nothing to do with the club at all, I added a shoutbox as a means for you guys to talk to us and give us your ideas/comments. This should solve the question of how you guys can directly communicate with the club outside of school. Ill be loose in moderating the shoutbox but please no spam or else Ill remove. Id go with IP ban but its not available on the free version.

Wasnt I supposed to be posting about other stuffs..?

I blame Shakugan no Shana Second

Shana is back for more action and more melon bread!

The Shakugan no Shana series is my personal top favorite and I just have to watch each episode of Shana 2 the moment its subbed. Ill try to get the series screened at school starting with the Shana movie and continuing on with volume 3 of the first season.

I also added Naaila as a contributor since she agreed to help out around the blog. If you dont know who she is, she was last year's secretary for the Anime Club and I ended up stealing her job for this year =D

Still waiting for Zecca to get a gmail account so he could start posting. Ill go around to bug him again on that at the start of this week.

NY Anime Festival December 7-9

So for those of you that actually had legible handwriting and check your E-Mail here is that info about that convention that I talked about.

This con will be held at the Jacob Javitz Center. For those of you that dont know where it is then Google Map it. The convention will take place, as you can see in the title, during December 7th to December 9th. With that in mind, we wont be staying at a hotel like in Anime Boston and we will be travelling most likely by Subway to go there and to go back home.

For those of you who have short term memory, the pricing is $50 for a weekend pass if we have more than 10 people who want one or $30 for a single day ticket if we have more than 10 for that. If we don't have 10 people for the tickets then it will be $55 and $35 respectively.

There are also different ticket levels. The VIP Silver and the VIP Gold. The silver costs $150 and the gold costs $200. The Silver one includes: No Lines, Extra Time at the Con, Free Merchandise (Sake Set, Plushie, and a T-Shirt), and a Special Badge. The Gold includes all of these things plus special "Meet and Greet" with two voice actors; one being the guy for "Speed Racer".

If your interested, comment this post or E-Mail me back because there are only 200 Silver tickets and 50 Gold. Please reply ASAP. If you want more info you can go to the website http://www.nyanimefestival.com. I will return with more info about this con such as what they will be screening when the information becomes available.

Edited by TheGrape - Also you guys could reply through the shoutbox also so you dont have to register at blogger.

A new interloper

Hey everybody! This is my first post, so naturally you have no idea who I am. This is Brian Murphy, president of the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Club. Now, I bet you're wondering why I am posting in an the anime blog. This is becuase the Anime Club and Sci-Fi/Fantasy Club are somewhat linked. Throughout the course of the year, both clubs will host a big party at the school that takes place in the school theater. The first party will take place at the end of October. The actual date is still pending. The second party is usually hosted at the end of year; a celebration for surviving another year here at Archbishop Molloy.

In the past years, these parties have entailed food, drinks, video games, anime screenings, art contests, and other random crap we make up on the way. However, the main highlight of these parties is the interaction that ensues between everybody. It is a great opportunity to meet new and "interesting" people while at the same time indulging yourself in what you love. Personally, my favorite aspect of these parities is that it allows you to be yourself. There is no judging. Any eccentric behavior on your part is accepted by all. Let these social events be your outlets, your portal to another world.

I strongly suggest that you participate in these parties. From my personal experience alone, I can attest to a fun and enjoyable time. You have nothing to lose from coming (except like 5 bucks to get in, but we need that money for the food, drinks, and prizes). You may see more posts from me, but probably not because I'm lazy. I might make some post about anime, considering this IS an Anime blog. At any rate, if you have any questions, feel free to come up to me in the halls and ask. I'm the tall white kid. You can't miss me.

Just remember kids, don't be a douche!

Well people.... being a while and I am posting again. I am posting to remind or for some people announce that there will be a very important Anime meeting on Thursday (10/11) regarding the future events of the Anime club (yes.. we are actually planning stuff). The most important points we will cover in this meeting will be the Anime Conventions both in New York and Boston this school year. We'll see who is interested to see we would go as a school , so if you really want to go try to come at least to say your interested. We would also discuss general information such as the price and such. So yeah.. hopefully we would get a good amount of people coming.. btw if for some strange reason you miss the meeting (please try not to) either me or TheGrape would summarize what happened in the meeting. So yeah.. thats it for now
P.S. more anime reviews coming soon..

We are NOT dead.. yet

Sorry about the inactivity of the blog lately. My reason for not updating the blog was because of Digital Life which I went to from Thursday to Friday and I was basically dead after getting home so I really never got a chance to do any updates since I had hw to do. Also, even though Im a senior I still have to worry about tests in the 1st semester so that took time away from me at Monday. Given that, Im also human, and a lazy one at that, so thats my excuse for not updating yesterday.

Anyways thats enough of me trying to justify my lack of updates. Dont worry though, Ill make sure that the blog wont die and you got my word on that.

Now whats up with the Anime Club lately. Well there is good news! Zecca has negotiated with Doc and the school trip to Anime Boston 2008 is now possible. Of course theres a catch to that but at least that means everyone in the club now has a chance to join us in AB08. The art contest deadline has also been moved to around October 29 which is probably the date for the Halloween party hosted by both the Anime and Sci-fi clubs.

"Wait.. we had an art contest?"

Yes there is an art contest although it has not been put into the school announcements yet; nor is it on the bulletin board outside Doc's room. We are also trying to spread the word around the school that there is an art contest but Im not sure that the whole club knows about it so Ill post the art contest guidelines right now.

Anime Club Art Contest
Deadline: Halloween Party (date - TBA)
Theme: None! Draw/Paint anything you want as long as it is appropriate.
Prize: $25 - the prize could increase to $50 or maybe even $100 depending on how the contest turns out. There might even be prizes for 2nd/3rd place but again it depends on how much entries we get.

Please spread the word about the art contest. The more entries, the better since more entries = more prizes. Im willing to put more money in for the prizes so I seriously encourage people to join.

Well that should break the aura of inactivity around here. Ill shortly make a post about ROFLcopters and Saimoe so be sure to visit regularly.
