Brief Introduction

Greetings, sir and/or madame, this is Tim, the Vice President with the limited knowledge of anime. So if you see any posts by me, just know that I'm not even sure what "Japan" is, but I'll keep at trying to help out the club regardless.

For the record, I'm also the ballin'est dude ever, and hope you'll join me in my struggle for galactic conquest. Remember, if you don't eat bacon, the bears win, so stack that up!

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni 1-4
Demoned Away Chapter

(This is my first review in a while so give me a break. Dont worry.. Ill add more pictures on the next one.)

OP:
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni by Eiko Shimamiya
ED: Why, or Why Not by Rekka Katakiri

Its interesting to be making a first review about Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When Cicadas Cry) since its one of the more unique series in which its episodes are arranged in "chapters" rather than a linear timeline. This is the anime where you find the crazy girl with the machete just in case your wondering. One of the better mystery/drama anime you will find out there.

The series starts off with a murder of some women by a man wielding a baseball bat. Then after the OP sequence we are shown the main characters and part of their everyday school life where they do some school antics. Then the story slowly progresses to the main part of the series which is the murder mystery.

It looks like everyone except Keiichi knows what happened in the town of Hinamizawa during the past, and it is up to him to figure out what happened. In fact, it seems like all of Keiichi's friends are capable of doing something bad. For instance, Rena shows up with a machete at the end of episode 1 but it was meant to free Colonel Sanders (Kenta-kun).

What I really like about the series is how the characters faces change as the story continues. Rena looks like a normal school girl with a cute voice to add to her "moe" factor, but later on she starts looking (and sounding) creepy. The way Higurashi no Naku Koro ni makes the characters cute in order to make the horror parts more subtle is very impressive. It does a great job in strengthening the horror parts since you start getting used to the characters' cute side... until you finally see the other side of them that is.

Most of the time people just skip through the OP and ED sequences since its supposedly a waste of time. In the case of Higurashi no Naki Koro ni,
the OP and ED songs accentuates the theme of series by setting in the atmosphere as the viewer gets prepared to watch and as the viewer finishes an episode.

Theres also a second series called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai (When Cicadas Cry Solutions) which is still being aired. Well its supposed to be still airing but then this happened..

As the result of a murder case in September 2007 in Japan involving the murder of a police chief by his sixteen-year-old daughter with a hatchet, as well as the speculation of the Japanese media relating the case to anime such as Higurashi, the current episode screenings of both Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai and another anime known as School Days have been cancelled by a number of Japanese TV stations. Whether this delay is to be temporary or permanent has yet to be seen.

Anime Club's first meeting

So what did you people think about the first Anime club meeting of the 2008 school year? Did you like the AMV? For those that don't know what an AMV let me do some explaining, an AMV is an anime music video. This means a person puts certain anime scenes to music. The one we showed was a comedy called "Something Wicked this way Comes," which won the Overall BEST AMV for Anime Boston 2007. If you people are intrested in AMV feel free to visit animemusicvideos.org which has many AMVs but you do have to join the website.

For those that are interested in what the short clip after the AMV, it is called Kigeki. But if you have any questions that you have that you were to shy to ask during the meeting you can ask me. So since i have nothing left to say, I guess its bye for now

This Blog and My Contributions

So, you people decided to come visit this unofficial Anime Club blog, well too bad, I'm sorry to say that you wasted your time and this blog is worthless. Contrary to TheGrape's belief this blog wont be visited and wont be updated much. If you believed this then your gullible and you don't know me very well. Oh well but now that your here let me mention somethings that were left our in previous posts
So the first Anime meeting is this Thursday at 2:00 most likely in the Art room. This blog will serve to be a place for announcements from the club since its been a regular pattern that announcements in the morning are either not listened to or not read. So when you people do join this will be a good place to check for updates.
So now to give you a little overview on the current situation of the Anime Club, the Anime Club has two primary activities. We have parties with the Science Fiction Club and Anime Screenings after school. So this might sound like cool and on most part the parties are fine but there is some problems with the Anime Screenings. Doc's schedule prevents him from doing any screenings until after 3:00 and because of this many don't show to these screenings. So thus a solution that I came up with is to give out DVDs with anime but as TheGrape stated there are some issues with this. So this is just an attempt at a solution if any of you have a possible solution please feel free to come forth with it. The last major event is going to Anime Conventions. We used to go to a bid convention in Boston called Anime Boston. But this year it coincides with the school trip to Europe during Easter. So thus me and the other officers have been searching for replacements. We have some in mind such as one in New York near Christmas time. If you know of one please tell us we will be interested in hearing you comments, well I not so much.
Now about the art contest. The first one is definitely has no theme and is for the general school body to show off their school. And hopefully it will be able to continue this monthly. We will also be displaying the winning art. As stated before if you have any opinions and suggestions to the club feel free to speak your mind since the club is in need of a revamping.
So to end let me say something about me. Well my name has already been stated in TheGrapes blog post. We are all seniors. I'm not known to be a nice person and this is reflected by a few of my comments but I am a responsible person that will get the work done. So i take the time now to say sorry for any future comments that might piss, anger,or otherwise tick you off. But I do hope that by the end of this year and my tenure in the cabinet that I leave the Anime Club in a better position then it started and not end with a rant about how these clubs are failing yet do nothing about it while in office. I am not one to blame and will try my best to fix this failing situation that past presidents have commented about. So I will be implementing some new ideas hopefully you the public will like it. Have an enjoyable time in the Anime Club.

Continuing TheGrape's Introduction

So yeah around the end of TheGrape's post you should have seen who I am. According to him I am a random person... i guess you people could see me as that too, but yeah >.>... whatever. Well so since you people kind of already know most of the stuff about what we think about doing this year i won't go through all the trouble he took to write them out (btw u guys should be thankful for him writing that, i could've never had the patience to do so -_-'). Well yeah anyway thats about all i have to say right now since i have no idea what else to say, go figure >.>.... great first post for me. So yeah... whatever i guess. By the way for anyone that cares ">>I am sorry if i murdered the English language in any way or form, I is very sorry for that<<" So yeah I guess I'll be seeing people around and reading what you guys say so don't forget to be active in the blog. We'll as final word, welcome to the AMHS Unofficial Blog ^^

Hello World!! The AMHS unofficial blog is now up!

Welcome the AMHS unofficial Anime Club blog! First of all, this blog is not affiliated with the school in any shape or form, nor are the posts in here reflective of the school's mission, faculty, and general student body. That means this blog is not representative of AMHS in any way whatsoever. Instead, the purpose of this is to inform the school Anime Club of plans/future events and to also discuss different anime series with its members. Every now and then we could post other non-anime related stuffs either for entertainment or discussion purposes since this IS a blog after all.

Since thats over with its time to talk about future plans for the Anime Club.

I have not been in contact with the club president, Mike Zecca (sp?), so I dont really know his plans for the club such as screenings, trips, etc., but there are things that Eric has proposed to Doc such as a monthly general art contest. I dont know if there will be a specific theme on the art or not but I am sure that this is planned to go monthly. Of course, there will be prizes given for 1st place (not sure about 2nd, 3rd - depending on number of entries I guess) so hopefully we add some club activity through that.

There is also plans about distributing data CDs(or DVDs) containing some Anime episodes and its purpose is to "show new members what we would screen in the near future". Two problems arise from that; one being the legality of possibly distributing region 1 licensed Anime and the second being the lasting impression of that "introductory distribution". If we start by handing out CDs(DVDs) of Anime then members might expect us to do that periodically and we cannot possibly keep that type of expectation. I want the club to have a good head start but I also want to have expectations that could be possible to meet.

A way around this is that instead of distributing Anime to members and probably running to legal consequences later, Id rather ask members what Anime to screen using this blog. Occasionally I would review a couple of anime series so it would help people find what series they want screened. Its been proven that not much people check their email for announcements by Doc so I feel that the blog approach would be better in terms of communicating with club members.

Other stuffs Im thinking about that Andre suggested is to make a forum. I would make it but only if people really want it since I dont want to waste my time managing a dead board. I guess Ill mainly work on helping ease communications between club members and officers (hate that word) so just talk to me if you want an idea presented or just comment here.
Last year getting word to other club members about meeting and activities was almost impossible so hopefully the blog would help along with any communication problems.

I dont know if I have been making sense in the last few paragraphs since my mind functions in an unorganized state, but hopefully you understand our current situation. My basic idea for the club is that more activity = more members and more members = even more activities so please try to be as active as possible. Get involved since your ideas actually do count in here.

So.. your probably thinking "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE?". Right now there are 3 people currently involved with the blog.

Paulo Talion (secretary) - TheGrape
Eric Lee (treasurer) - LeeSkyDragon(?)
Andre Roman (random person) - Aga1014

Ill ask if Tim and Zecca would want to be part of the blog but as of now its just us 3.

Yes... the layout is crap as of now but bear with me. Ill get things organized soon.
